We all know that plants are important for a healthy environment, but what most people don’t know is just how much they impact the environment. Plants not only provide us with food, but they also play an important role in the natural process of decomposition. People like Alex Djerassi love planting. Plants give off oxygen and clean the air as well. Without plants, animals and humans would have very little fresh air to breathe. Through the process of photosynthesizing, plants breathe back oxygen into the atmosphere by taking carbon dioxide out of the air. Green vegetated plants make up part of the natural oxygen, which is crucial to the survival of all living things. Many plants even release methane, a powerful greenhouse gas, into the air when they photosynthesize, meaning that plants not only benefit from having a place to live, but they also help control the number of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere as well. In fact, research has shown that if all plants were destroyed, the earth’s temperature would rise significantly, rising about two degrees Celsius (5.4 degrees Fahrenheit).

Plants also play a huge role in the chemical and biological processes within the soil. Without these living organisms, we wouldn’t be able to use the land for our agricultural, domestic, and ornamental needs. Plants form the base of many food chains, and without them, we wouldn’t be able to produce fruits and vegetables, meat, dairy, or other animal products that we consume on a daily basis. Forests are a major component of ecosystems, providing habitats for wildlife such as birds, mammals, deer, and even some birds that are indigenous to specific geographic regions. The loss of these natural habitats can result in a reduction in wildlife populations and pose a threat to the sustainability of plant-based ecosystems.

Planting trees and plants is very good for several reasons. Trees help our environment by keeping the air clean. It is well-known that trees produce oxygen. Trees also help people cool off in the summer. When people go camping, they bring along a tent and sleeping bags and all of their food and drinks. If there are no trees in the area, the campers would have to bring their own food and drinks, and this can get very expensive, especially if they have to eat human food. Trees also provide shade, which is very helpful during the hot summer months. Without them, the summer can be unbearably hot. Another benefit of planting trees is that it helps to purify the air. When oxygen is abundant in the air, it is cleaner air, and it is much healthier. The trees that are planted need to be near a source of water to survive, so the rain forests and desert areas are actually much healthier than those near a factory, for example. This is because they don’t have to continually pump in water, so there aren’t excessive amounts of pollutants in the air that need to be removed from the air, according to Alex Djerassi.
