Instagram has finally added a profile feature, which was sorely needed for such a long time. Several third-party apps have been developed to help fill this gap.
In the most recent of his regular weekly updates Instagram head, Adam Mosseri, has announced the worldwide roll-out of a new ‘links in bio’ feature that allows you to add up to five external links to your Instagram profile rather than just one.
These links allow visitors to your profile to jump effortlessly to other online content you may want to feature, such as a preferred website, Twitter profile or Etsy store, without having to go through a third-party ‘links in bio’ service such as Linktree or Campsite.bio.
How to use this new feature
Open the Instagram app, go to your profile and tap the ‘Edit Profile’ button.
- About halfway down the screen, tap ‘Links’.
- On the next screen, tap ‘Add external link’
- Enter the link URL and optionally add a title. This will appear in place of the URL on your profile.
- Add extra links by repeating the procedure up to four times.
- You can rearrange them in any order you like, but the important link should be at the top.
Visitors can access your list of links by simply tapping on the first link.
While Instagram’s new feature certainly isn’t good news for existing ‘links in bio’ providers, they won’t be replaced immediately. Linktree offers, as an example, many other options, such as custom link templates, animations, styles and multi-platform support.
Instagram must go further in order to be competitive with these services. However, this update will come as a great addition for users whose presence online is scattered across multiple platforms. Instagram gains more information on these users’ online activity.
